We've been on a butterfly-kick the past few weeks. Kyler LOVES them and every time he sees one (in a book, hanging from the ceiling displays at Target, in a picture) he freaks out screaming, "But! But!" (he can't quite say
butterfly). Slightly embarrassing depending on where we are at the time:). We made our annual trek over to the Butterfly house in Midland. Each spring (around Spring Break) they have it open to the public and do a fantastic job! There are a ton of different varieties of butterflies you can find and crafts the kids can do. They will even have an entomologist come and make "chocolate
chirp cookies" made out of crickets; and various other edible bug dishes--um, no thanks... I'll pass.

It was a chilly walk through the botanical gardens to the conservatory. We passed this little waterfall and attempted a photo. Gotta love Kyler's "cheese" face... AKA mega crust!

I tried and tried to get a shot of this butterfly with it's wings open. They are the most amazing iridescent blue! Never would have guessed it from this side of the wing! One of the workers there said (after she had probably watched me for 30 minutes trying to coax this guy to open his wings up without flying away) it is nearly impossible to get a "live" shot of their open wings. You either have to have a super fast camera, or they're already dead and sprawled out on some display board.
