"In Virginia Grandma and Grandpa"
Corbin has to specify which set of grandparents he's talking about and he's associated my parents with the title, "In Virginia Grandma and Grandpa." Well... they came out to visit us for a super-short "long weekend." We tried to cram as much in the 4 days they'd be here as weather permitted and time allowed.
We were busy tilling, weeding, and raking in between rainstorms getting the garden ready. Kyler's helping out grandpa pull the wagon to the compost pile.
We headed up to Mackinaw Island one day. It's this super quaint, unique island where no automobiles are allowed (except for EMS, fire trucks, etc.). Everything in the streets is either a horse-drawn buggy, bicycle, or pedestrian. The above photo is out of sequence... here we're loading up on the bikes. It's the only way to tour the island! Either that or run the half-marathon in the fall:)
The weather cooperated nicely! Even though it was mid-80's back home, up on the water of the great lakes it was mid-60's. We clearly under-dressed for the occasion:). Here's the crew getting ready to load the bikes and gear onto the ferry.
This was my dad's first time on the island and you gotta do it right! We braved the chilly weather and sat on the top deck of the ferry. The view is incredible! Poor Kyler didn't like the windy ride, but he survived like a champ!
.... and all I could think of as we passed this lovely sight was, "Great Scott!!! Marty!"
Dad and the Mighty Mac in the background. It's the bridge that connects us "trolls" (those who live "under the bridge," meaning MI's lower-peninsula) to the "yoopers" (those who live in MI's upper peninsula). Honestly, after living here for nearly 7 years, there really is a difference between the two... and not just geographically speaking:)
The boys throwing rocks. I think we burned about an hour here... little boys... rocks... water... 'nuff said!
Notice the rock's position that Kyler just threw...
Corbin and I on the norheast side of the island. You could see Canada from here (if the fog wasn't in the way). Too bad the picture doesn't do it justice, but the way the light was hitting the water made it look like it was a glowing turquoise color.
Corbin is standing in front of the amazing grounds of The Grand Hotel. It's claim to fame is it is the location for the movie with Christopher Reeve, Somewhere in Time. It's a pretty posh place. You're not allowed on the grounds past 5 P.M. without an evening gown for the ladies, and a dinner jacket for the men....
